Snæfellsnes & Kirkjufell

Our journey begins with a northward drive, leading us through the bustling town of Borgarnes in western Iceland. As we venture further west, we are greeted by the breathtaking and vibrant landscapes of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, with the majestic Kirkjufell mountain standing tall in the distance. At the western tip of the peninsula lies the newly designated national park, home to the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier, as well as stunning coastal beaches and cliffs that will leave you in awe. We will make a stop at a viewpoint nestled in the foothills of the glacier, a location immortalized in Jules Verne's classic novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Our journey continues to Búðir, once a bustling trading post now reduced to barely visible ruins. Here, we will take a moment to savor a cup of coffee at the renowned Búðir Hotel, a beloved country retreat in Iceland. We will then venture down to the quaint village of Arnarstapi, where we will marvel at the striking sea cliffs and panoramic views of the area.

For the adventurous souls among us, a scenic 2.5 kilometer walk from Arnarstapi to Hellnar awaits, offering a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region. Our next stop is the charming settlement of Hellnar, nestled beneath the glacier at the edge of the ocean, where seabirds and cliffs reign supreme.

As we approach midday, we will indulge in a delightful lunch at the Fjöruhúsið Café, a cozy spot near the beach offering unparalleled views and the sweet melodies of birdsong. Our journey then takes us to the picturesque Djúpalónssandur beach, where we will bask in the serenity of the surroundings. Our final destination is Ólafsvík, a weather-beaten fishing village that stands as a testament to Iceland’s history. Your busy day comes to an end where it began in Reykjavík!
