Landmannalaugar & Hekla Volcano
Once we board our Superjeeps in Reykjavik, we embark on an exhilarating journey through the fertile farmlands of South Iceland, where breathtaking views of the snow-covered top of Hekla volcano (elev. 1491m) await. With Hekla's next eruption long overdue and imminent, you might just witness a spectacle like no other. Since the ninth century, Hekla has erupted 20-30 times, ranging from captivating tourist attractions to catastrophic disasters. It's no wonder Hekla has been considered the gateway to Hell for damned souls. If conditions allow, we may even venture up to the eruptive ridge of the volcano at approximately 900m above sea level, where the air is crisp and the panoramic vistas are unparalleled. Continuing our expedition into Iceland's fiery interior, prepare to be awe-struck by scenery so surreal that it has been featured in blockbuster Hollywood films.
Upon reaching Landmannalaugar, you'll have the opportunity to hike amidst this otherworldly landscape or indulge in a rejuvenating soak in Iceland's renowned natural hot pool - or perhaps both. After immersing yourself in geothermal bliss, our journey takes us north through landscapes that will leave you questioning if they truly exist, with a stop at Gjáin (known as a filming location for Game of Thrones) before making our way back to Reykjavík.
