Golden Circle Glacier & Northern Lights
In the afternoon, our journey begins towards the majestic Þingvellir National Park, where the Mid-Atlantic rift divides and the Icelandic parliament was established over a millennium ago. As we approach the domain of the mighty Strokkur geyser in the geothermal region of Haukadalur, prepare to witness scalding water shooting into the sky at heights of 25 to 30 meters, we will pause to marvel at this awe-inspiring display of nature while exploring the vibrant hot springs.
Our next destination is the breathtaking Gullfoss waterfall: a two-tiered cascade plunging into the pristine Hvítá river with its vigorous glacial waters. Then, we embark on the northern path of the Kjölur interior mountain road, renowned as the second longest route through the Highlands of Iceland. This ancient road has existed since the early days of Icelandic settlements and is even chronicled in Icelandic sagas.
Our quest leads us to the grand Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in the country. In the winter you’ll have the option of an hour long snowmobile ride (longer if requested), either on the glacier or the surrounding area. Following this, we will enjoy a countryside dinner and hunt for the illusive northern lights before returning to Reykjavík.
